Southside Sundays #03

  • Classic Cinema 9 Gordon Street Elsterwick (map)

Following fragments of improvisation and collaboration through the years, James Gales (Piano) and Asher Elazary (Electronics) have coalesced as Magic I. Their approach to free improvised music draws upon an eclectic range of influences - from experimental videogame music to harsh noise - grounded in a shared history of classical instrumental practice. Post-minimalist piano gestures meld with the digital in dialogue of organic and algorithmic feedback.

DOORS @ 5 // $10-$15

Classic Cinema is wheelchair accessible. For those who need it, there is an elevator inside the cinema that leads into Classic Southside.

This is a safe space. No racism, homophobia, transphobia, classist, ableist attitudes, fatphobia or other violent behaviour will be tolerated.

South of the City is a social enterprise focused on activating creative spaces on the south side with music, art and film. Run by a network of young people – musicians, artists, filmmakers and dancers – we’re invested in supporting, promoting and putting on arts events closer to home.

We would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri People and Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which this event is taking place. We pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty has never been ceded.
