87dB is a weekly celebration of left field music and performance every Thursday night. On Feb 7, the first ever 87dB presents a night of original never-before-heard music from two bands, performing alongside original films from local filmmakers.
Hoi Palloi - Ebbing and flowing, pushing and pulling, big waves of soft sound. Unpretentiously and whole-heartedly in the valley between spiritual jazz and art-folk. Virtuosic musicians who know that musical strength comes from simplicity.
Mara - Acoustic instruments stretched and warped, possibly. Expect the extra unexpected. Tender voices, clean production, considered blending of silence and sound. Everything to make you cry cold tears, drenched in the layered nostalgia of nostalgic moments.
Meg Duncan - Often set within a personal or domestic context, her films foreground stories of gender, sexuality and identity, encouraging audiences to interact with their own memory to create meaning. Meg grounds her stories in rich external and imaginative landscapes, wrapping both her characters and her audience in a nostalgic haze.
Lucas Haynes - Spends a lot of time in his room taking photos and feeling confused- sometimes he puts these things together. Mysterious, profound, silly.
